THE PEGGSTER.NET CHRISTMAS 2007 Q&A!!!

For the third year in a row, Simon has kindly taken some time out of his very busy schedule to answer question directly from his fans. Thanks to everyone who participated this year and thank you also to Simon!

Here are your questions and answers.

Connie, Argentina:  Hello, Mr. Pegg... Simon... Sir, I'm Connie, from Argentina and here are my humble questions. Was there any point in time, before you made it, when you thought time was running out or that the whole thing was hopeless? If so, what made you keep going, what pushed you forwards?

Bryee: Hi Simon, Merry Christmas. What's your ULTIMATE music festival line up? Thanks heaps and LOVE LOVE LOVE your work!!!

Shingo (velocity_shingo), Hawaii:  What cars do you own, which cars do you wish you owned?

Peter Poorman, Saskatoon Canada:  Do you ever worry that working with Nick so often may overshadow his own credibility as an actor?

Shane Denley (Skelington), Adelaide South Australia:  Did you have any specific Australian motivation / inspiration for your character Dr Russell Fell in Danger 50,000 Volts??

Lucy C (Bohemian Piratess), Leicester:  Simon - the embodiment of all that is awesome and good... Ever imagined you could have a star on the Walk of Fame/handprints at Grauman's? It's been an exciting and emotional year for all of us. Wishing you, Maureen AND Minnie a Merry Christmas! I love you babe x

Dorothy Peters, Daytona Beach FL:  To his Royal Peggness: Out of all of the US States that you've visited, which is your favorite and why? Hope ya have a wonderfully amazing Christmas filled with awesomeness! (PS: You're awesome)

Clement, Oklahoma USA:  Dear Simon, How do you do? I know it sounds corny to this say but I am a huge fan of your works, both in acting and writing. I have already watched (nearly) all of your projects. I was actually over the moon when I knew I have my first opportunity to have this word exchange with you! Here are the questions: I happen to discover that your works basically have a strong theme of repression in the characters: every character in Spaced, Shaun in Shaun of the Dead, Nicholas and Danny (yes, both) in Hot Fuzz and even Dennis in Run, Fatboy, Run which has nothing to do with Edgar. I would like to know whether this is your intention or just a mere coincidence. Merry Christmas by the way.

Domino:  ¡Hola, Simon! I have to tell you I truly love what you do, seriously, I'm a huge admirer and Shaun of the Dead is one of my all time favorite films. Do you like animals? I know you have a dog, and who doesn't like animals really (well i guess some people don't) but I mean, if you had to classify yourself would you say you're an Animal Rights supporter or an Animal Welfare supporter? I wasn't truly aware of the difference between them until recently, but it is supposed to be summed up as "Animal rights advocates campaign for no cages, while animal welfarists campaign for bigger cages." Or you could be neither, but that depends on your answer. Take care and thank you for answering our questions! :-*

Kimberly (kimmerv2), New York NY:  Hi Simon, Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer all of our questions! As an actress, I figure I can’t have too many special skills to add to my cv, right? I’m very excited because my husband and I are in the process of getting permits to operate firearms. Since you’ve obviously had more experience than I and admittedly “pack heat” (don’t deny it – I saw Top Gear), my question to you is this: What type of gun would you recommend I start off with? I do have a good friend who is a police officer who told me he could get any type of gun for me to try out on the range once my permit goes through. So the sky’s the limit . . what do you suggest? Hope you, Maureen & Minnie have a very Happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year!

Carol Avey (charlie62), Salem OR USA:  Hello Simon: Will you and Nick be coming to the Pacific Northwest for location filming for "Paul"? Thank you so much for giving me fun time at the movies and a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and yours.

Julia, Louisville KY:  I know you’re a Bruce Campbell fan. A few years ago, Bruce published his autobiography, “If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor.” What would the title of your autobiography be, and do you have any plans to write one? Just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your work, and I think you’re tremendously talented. Can’t wait for your next project!

Rik Godfrey (Poooding), Canterbury England:  Why did you choose Canterbury as Nicholas Angel’s University? Thank you - We cheered when we heard it!

Katy Depp:  My friend and I travelled all the way from Louisville Kentucky to meet you while you were filming in New York. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. Have you ever travelled a long distance just to meet someone you were a fan of? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer these questions!

Eileen, New Jersey USA:  "Hot Fuzz" was about to be released on DVD in the UK before it even hit theaters in the US and "Run Fatboy Run" is pushed back even after it is a number one movie in the UK so my question is this, do you find it frustrating getting a British film released and distributed in the US? Thanks for everything you do :) xox Eileen

Serene (Khaur), Singapore:  What makes an excellent movie an excellent movie? P.S: Thanks for taking time out to do this!=)

Hazel, UK:  Simon, Would you rather spend a week in the Big Brother household (in the glare of the nation) or a year on a desert island? Lots of love from Hazel, UK xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Brandon Hunt, Chicago:  If you had a month off of working what would you do and what video game would you play?

Well i had so much fun thank harmony for doing the interview ever year this is the best chirstmas present of all time and also simon for answering them i was sooo nervous but i got through it hope you had fun see ya.

Kevin Conn, New Jersey:  Should I take the red pill or blue pill?

Thank you again for all of your great work, and I wish you much continued success!

Tatiana, Madrid Spain:  This is a question about how do you write your movies, since I am studying in a film school and I'm interested in the process you might follow. Do you make an outline of the whole movie establishing what's more important, and then start writing developing each part; or do you write the whole movie as it comes??

Michael Arkous, Brooklyn New York:  Hey Simon Its Michael (hope you remember me) anyways! I just wanted to ask! Since your famous, how does your family (like cousins, uncle's etc) see you as? like do they think of you before you where famous or?.. anyhow Seasons Greetings, & best of luck, I hope to meet you again!

A. Beck, NC USA:  Hey Simon! If you can go back in time, which era would you choose?

Thank you Simon : )

Anni, Wellington NZ:  Hi Simon, merry Christmas and all that jazz! And I couldn't help but notice that you (along with Edgar and Nick) have a great taste in music. I was wondering what your favourite band you've 'discovered' this year is? From Anni 'AKA the short chick who didn't say shout-out, but promises to next time'

Amanda:  What did you think of the final Harry Potter book, and were there any tears? (I cried at Dobby's dawn burial...and now Dumbledore's been outed!).

Claudia Hackett, Memphis TN:  What American actor would you be most intimidated to work with?

Stephanie Carrigan, Memphis TN:  Could you come to be the object of “My show & Tell” in my 12th grade class?

Robb (TheDeadWait):  Hello Simon, Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions. If you were layed up for 5 months with not much do and had to decide between an X-Box 360 or PS3 which would you choose?

Sam (biglou114), New York, NY:  Simon, now that you are becoming a bigger star, are there any characters from other mediums that you really want to play on the big screen?

Julie (xfsista), Los Angeles CA:  Hi Simon, Not too long ago, I was reading an interview with Robert Weide regarding How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. In the interview (which you can read here), Norman Sweetzer, the interviewer asked the following question:

Mr. Weide replied with this:

My question is simple. What is your side of the story? Thanks a bunch, Simon! And I know you already know this, but your fans are incredible. I still consider myself a bit of a newbie and everyone has embraced me with open arms. I'm thrilled to be a part of this group and proud to call myself your fan.

Wishing you health and happiness!

Jessica Dwyer, Eugene OR USA:  Hi Simon!! I hope the holidays are finding you well! Are your Star Wars fan sensibilities giving you fits as you are now being surrounded and instilled into the great and mighty captains log of Star Trek history? i.e. are any of your Star Wars figures exploding or your lightsabers turning on by themselves and trying to cut your arm off?

As always Simon, thank you for being you. And the offer is still open for the next time your in Seattle to head over to Gameworks for drinking and video games. Cause two stories of video games and bars full of micro brew = freaking awesome.

David Yeap, Malaysia (South East Asia Region 3):  It's Christmas time, What is the one thing that you would like to have or do in this festive day?

Wishing everybody a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year from Malaysia.

Jennifer (BeastyBunny), San Francisco CA:  Simon, I've read in interviews your love of gaming (your have a Xbox 360 and a room in your house just for gaming and movies. *sweet*) I would like to ask what are your favorite games/system? And what games are you looking forward to the most? Thank you for taking the time for this. We really appreciate it. Hope you have a happy and relaxing holiday.

Kath (SpacedOut23):  Your 2 previous reasons for not making series 3 [of Spaced] are that it would be impossible to get everyone together for it and that no-one would want to see Tim and Daisy in thier 30's. As you managed to get everyone (apart from Jess) together albeit for a day the first reason seems a little thrown out. And seen as your original audience for Spaced was probably between 18 and 28 (that was the age of myself and my brother when series 1 started) that makes the same audience now 26 to 36?? As the younger half of that I would love to see how Tim and Daisy turned out. So my question is not when you're making series 3 but when you're gonna come up with a decent 3rd excuse why not to make series 3?

P.S If you ever get the chance to drum on screen again please do coz you really are very good. And watching you twiddle those drumsticks is the sexiest thing ever! Simon you rock! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Nic (thirtyhelens), Los Angeles CA:  Pegg! - how's your tannenbaum?! In the interview in April we talked about Heroes a little bit, and not long after that I got to wondering (in the midst of banging on about it at length on the Heroes thread on the board) - what your reaction was to all the criticism (especially on certain fanboy sites) of the show's first-season climax bearing a lot of similarities to that of Watchmen. Being that you've incorporated references and homages into a lot of your work, what are your thoughts on where the line is drawn comfortably between what constitutes an homage versus something...hmm, less honorable? Feliz navidad, best to Maureen & Minnie (tag team club name: M&M?) and as ever, thanks for indulging our little family of geeks. - X Nic

Beverley Matthews, Staffs England:  The last couple of years have seen many of your dreams come true, but if you had a guinness world record to achieve what would it be?

Paul (curtinparloe), Manchester UK:  Greetings to you, Pieman Segg, thanks for being so understanding about us cybergeeks... "Skip to the end." I was wondering where the iconc phrase came from. Was it dreamt up by you and Jess, or is it a sly reference to Prince Humperdink's wedding to Buttercup in The Princess Bride?

Cheers, Simon, and carry on with the doing of stuff. you're quite good at it.

Paul (aspiring writer/director)

Paige:  First of all thank you for enriching our lives!

Did you ever end up visiting Jonathan Ross for a comics geekfest?

Jadwin, Las Vegas:  I've got a serious thing for tattoos, so I've just got to ask. Was the decision to leave yours uncovered in Big Nothing a character choice, or was that a decision that came from higher up?

Finn, Australia:  Hi Simon. I'm sure the other Peggsters will ask you sensible, intelligent and thought-provoking questions, so I've decided to go the other way…. In your opinion, who has the finer arse – Dylan Moran or Hank Azaria?

By the way, you are too cool - keep it up! Merry Christmas!

Sean Schram, Melbourne Florida:  Being a movie fanatic must mean you have heard your fair share of one-liners, from which movie did you hear your favorite, and what is it?

Stephanie (Kapuhi):  Aloha Simon. :) Your fans are in large part deploring McSpaced. Yet you accepted a role played first by Doohan decades ago, and the Trekkers are deploring STXI. Are you seeing any interesting parallels, having mixed feelings, coming down more on the 'remake' side or the 'leave it be' side?"

Gabriella, London:  Hi Simon, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions! Mine is: You're known for your film and television work but would you ever consider doing something on stage, or is that not really a medium you're interested in? Thanks again for doing this...you rock!

SPPCDAISY, New Jersey United States:  My question for Simon is of an existential nature.... Simon: do you think that maybe we die because we accept it as an inevitable possibility? if one were to deny the reality of it, would one actually die?"

Ilana (Glastra), Des Moines Iowa USA:  As decades of stage productions illustrate, nearly ANY subject or genre can be turned into musical theatre. If you suddenly decided to let Shaun of the Dead be written for the stage, who would write the music?

Gabby, Hull UK:  Hi Simon , I was just wondering , what path do you think your career would have taken if you had not met Nick and Edgar ? Thanks and happy christmas !

Athena, Los Angeles:  What's the one, single, best experience you've had this year, 2007? Only one now. ;) I've said it twice and I'll say it again... you rock Simon. I'll always love your work.

Sarah, Melbourne Australia:  Hi Simon, I just wanted to start by saying congratulations on such an amazing year, and thanks again for continuing to be so generous with us fans. A special thanks for coming all the way out to Australia this year - it was a real thrill for us! Do you have any advice about weddings or wedding days? (I'm getting married in Feb and have no fear about the marriage at all but finding the idea of the wedding a little daunting! - Sorry, a bit of a selfish question there!)
Much Love
Sarah xo

Bryony, Beaconsfield UK:  Hiya, Just wanted to say a big thanks for the Spaced day at the BFI! It was a brilliant day - really appreciated all of you taking time out of your busy lives to watch it again! Perhaps you can settle a debate for me and my mate? Beer or Cider? Is Cider a bit pikey?!!! Have a great Xmas! Bryony xxx

Michelle (Toonces), Boston MA (a.k.a. The Hub of the Universe):  Hey hey, Simon! Thanks for continuing the Christmas Interview tradition! :-) Do you have any special talents or skills that you haven't shared with the public at large? If so, care to share with us? Thanks again... we're all hoping you have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends! *tacklehugs*

Greg G, Oregon USA:  Looking back to the final Episode of Season 1 of Spaced, have you changed your mind? Do you believe in happy endings now? The end of Season 2 suggested you had, but I would like to know if there is hope that there is one out there. So were you able to find one with all the fame from all the wonderfully hard work and talent you have exerted? Best wishes for a long and wonderfully energizing career creating and implementing ideas, dreams, hopes and aspirations of that tireless and wonderfully inventive mind and spirit of yours. May you know and feel the love and bonds your fans feel for your talent. Don’t forget to thank your God for your gift to make us laugh. What else is left but to cry about all the pain in our little lives? Thanks Simon for the Inspiration and for “Spaced”. I wish there was more but what there is I am grateful for. May your life be filled with many more successful episodes, seasons and premiers. A Full Length Movie to delight in. I’m learning to find peace with mine.

Ximena, Allentown PA U.S.A:  Hello Simon! I've only discovered your work a couple of months ago and I'm already a big fan! The world is definitley a better place with you in it. :) Okely dokely, here are my questions: You've been invited to a Maori village in New Zealand. As part of their welcoming ceremony, the village elders sing you a song. You are asked to sing a song in response. What song do you choose to sing? And why? Happy Christmas and all the best in 2008!!

Amanda Conley (funfuzz23), Kentucky USA:  Simon, I think it is so cool that you take time out of your busy schedule to do this... Would you ever consider coming to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area in the near future?

Petrova, Coventry England:  Are you anything like your character Jools from Faith in the Future?

Dolfyn (Genevieve), Melbourne Australia:  Hi Simon, First, it was a massice thrill to meet you at the "Hot Fuzz" Q&A in Melbourne this year. Thank you for being so gracious & sweet! Secondly, keep an eye out for a present in the mail from Australia in the next few weeks (if it hasn't already arrived!). ;o) Now to the point. You've written articles, & for TV & film; do you think you would/could ever write a book? And if so, what kind? (excluding comic books!) Feel the love.

Rachel (LaminatedRachel), UK:  How does the writing process with Nick differ to working with Jessica and Edgar?

Craig (mcraigclark), Washington DC:  My very small, very hairy children (Duncan and Truman) bring a lot of joy to my house. Is there something Minnie does that makes you particularly happy? Thanks so much for doing this again and best wishes in the new year!

Charlotte, Rebecca and Shannon, Leeds:  When are you and Nick Frost going to get married?

Andrew (Beasta), Tucson AZ:  Hey Simon! Have you been able to keep up with gaming this year? If so, what do you consider the best of 2007? I know you've been busier than ever this year, but hopefully you've had some downtime to sit and enjoy a good video game, because nothing relieves stress better than blowing the heads off some baddies who had it coming, eh? Thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions, and even bigger thanks for providing us with the best entertainment around. Your films have spent more time in my console this year than any of my favorite games.

Emma, Dorset UK:  Hi Simon, what was it like growing up in Gloucester? I was born and raised there but moved away when I was 7, so missed out on all the clubs/pubs it (supposedly) has to offer!

ffolkes, New Jersey:  What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Rich Fulcher, London UK:  Is it true that one of your favorite movies of all time is the Duke of Knockers?

Harmony, Dolphin Hotel - rm 1408:  Let's say both are real and each event would only happen once... Would you rather come face to face with a ghost in your home or see a UFO hovering overhead while outside alone at night? Why and why not the other?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer all our questions, Simon!

Now it's your turn to all of us a question.
