I'm blogging, I'm blogging, I'm blog, blog blogging. I realize this is somewhat overdue and I really should have
blogged a little more whilst on my trip to the States but the fact is, our chief blogger Lee was doing such a
brilliant job over at www.spacedinvasion.com and Edgar seemed to find time to drop some seriously heavy blogs
about various interviews and photo shoots and wot-not along the way, I figured, ah what's the point? I was
pretty busy working and sleeping anyway and I find you really have to be in the right mood to blog. If you're
not, you experience blog-block and that ain't fun. It makes you very huffy and resentful of the process.
Anyway, I thought I'd swing by and drop a little blogette to bring everyone up to speed on stuff I'm not allowed
to talk about.
I went out a little early to LA with Nick, to get our BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP fitted for BLEEP. After that Nick went
home and I flew to NYC to meet Maureen and begin the Spaced tour, which you know all about. During my stay in
NYC, I was driven out to BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP for a tour of the BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP, since I am currently
working with them on a BLEEP BLEEP for BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP. That was fun and it was amazing to see how it all
works. New York was enormous fun. Aside from official Spaced duties, I saw Dark Knight and Hellboy 2, both of
which I enjoyed immensely.
We then flew back to LA for a fantastic signing/screening etc (see Spaced invasion and Edgar's blog for deets),
before driving down San Diego. Before we left Jess and I went and did The Soup on the E! Channel which was
great fun. Joel McHale is a lovely, lovely man and it was a pleasure to meet the hugely respected Current
Affairs Commentator, Keith Olbermann. On the way to Comic Con I received a call from BLEEP BLEEP asking if
he could send me the script for BLEEP BLEEP. I read it on the way to Comic Con and it blew my mind. Fingers
crossed that works out.
Comic Con was a blast. It was lovely to see Paul director, BLEEP BLEEP who was there to do a little research
as well as hang out and have fun. On Friday evening I attended the Pineapple Express screening which I
absolutely loved. I think Seth and the gang may have created the perfect stoner film. I watched it straight
and loved it but I got the feeling if you were to watch it baked (as I believe you are supposed to), it
might just be the most wonderous film you will ever see. Went along to the aftershow (after going back to
the convention centre and introducing a Spaced screening with a huge slow motion gunfight) and met James
Franco and Danny McBride for the first time, both of whom were top fellas. Also bumped into JJ Abrams who
showed me a short Star Trek trailer on his iPhone that he'd put together for corporate. I couldn't close my
mouth for 40 minutes. Also caught up with Zach Quinto and geeked out about the fact we're in Star Trek.
The next day, after finishing our press duties, me and Maureen ventured out onto the convention floor. I
bought a Joker mask to make passage through the throng a little easier. It was hot and sweaty but it serves
me right for making certain career choices. That evening we went to see the extremely funny Patton Oswald in
his Comedians of Comedy show, before nipping off to the EW party to hook up with Zach and John Cho to geek out
some more. I also got to meet Lost's Matthew Fox who, as it turns out, is a big Shaun of the Dead fan. Much
mutual geekage occurred before I went home to bed for a soothing four hours sleep.
Said goodbye to my darling wife in the darkness of silent San Diego Sunday morning and flew off to my favorite
part of Texas. Austin was blisteringly hot when we arrived, the kind of hot that makes you fall over and weep.
After some Mexican food, a long conversation on the phone with BLEEP BLEEP about BLEEP BLEEP and a fitful
forty winks, it was off to the Alamo Ritz for the Spaced-numb-a-thon. I was barely conscious when it began
but I got thru the whole thing on gratis beer and the huge amount of love in the room. What a great night.
Austin, I do love you so.
After another four hours sleep, we were up and at 'em and headed for NYC and Late Night With David Letterman.
Mercifully, I slept on the plane and thus charged my batteries for my final press engagement of the Spaced
Invasion tour. Got into the Bowery Hotel, showered, went out and bought a shirt, met up with my friend Tony,
then went to The Ed Sullivan Theatre. Got to my dressing room to find a message from Gillian Anderson scrawled
on my mirror in lipstick: PEGG - I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE NOT COMING TO MY FILM. DIE SCUMBAG!!! - DANA. I was
supposed to be going to the X-Files premiere when I got home but couldn't go because we had friends from LA
getting in that day for Nick's wedding on Friday.
Letterman went well, with me grossing out the audience with talk of snogging my dog (anything for comedy,
right?). I then posed for a few photos outside, said a quick hello to Gillian, before being whisked off to
JFK to fly home.
Slept all the way back to London to be reunited with Mo and Minnie. The Nicoteros arrived the next day, jet
lagged but looking forward to the Frost nuptials. We went to the pub in the evening and had some food before
going back to the house and crashing. On Friday morning I went for a BLEEP BLEEP for BLEEP PLEEP we have
coming up for Paul, then met Greg and Nick in town, before heading back to Nick's hood for a pre-wedding
pub crawl. Eventually Greg headed back to the Soho Hotel and Nick and I watched AVP2 (Dire) before going to bed.
Friday was a very special day.
Weekend was spent recovering. Waved the Nicoteros off on Sunday morning before going back to bed until noon.
Had a roast dinner at the pub, walked the dog, watched Batman: Gotham Knight and a bunch of Entourages before
crashing out. Maureen read BLEEP BLEEP and loved it. Sure hope that comes off.
Rumors to dispel.
1. I have not been asked, nor have I asked to write an episode of the Star Wars TV show.
2. I am not in something called Nativity.
That is all.
