Great job, guys! ________________ US 'FATBOY' RELEASE PUSHED TO MARCH Following Simon's appearance on Conan O'Brien and the New York screening of 'Run, Fatboy, Run' last night, we can confirm that the US release date of the film has been pushed back until 28 March 2008. 'The Good Night,' however, is still out on 5 October. We hope. ;) UPDATED! -From Simon: As I'm sure you know if you saw Conan, Picturehouse have decided to delay the release of RFBR to March due to the amount of stiff competition around the original release date, notably from Steve Carrell's 'Dan In Real Life'. The ensuing weeks are packed with big releases and the distributors feel the film needs space in order to impact on that all important box office. So, irritatingly, it's been postponed. I'm pretty disappointed not only because they've had us doing press at a time when I should be writing with Nick but also because all the people who are of aware of the film and looking forward to its release are now going to have to wait until after the R2 DVD comes out in the UK to see the film theatrically. It feels to me, and indeed, may appear to others as a vote of no confidence, which is strange considering the film has [been] enjoying its second week at the top of the UK box office charts. What can you do? Sorry to all of you here in the States. I'm as bummed as you are. x UPDATED AGAIN! -From Simon: Contrary to my initial reaction, the decision to push RFBR back was due to an increased confidence in the film. Releasing a movie of this kind over thanksgiving weekend would be to condemn it to a very short run. Holding it back means it will not only play on more screens, it will run for longer. Despite my frustration I can totally see why the decision was made and completely trust the distributor in this matter. In the long run it will be good for the film, even though my closest of pals will have to wait that little bit longer. Hope everyone understands. ________________ NEW 'RUN, FATBOY, RUN' TRAILER - #1 FILM IN UK How many trailers does this film have?! Here's the new one from PictureHouse. Variety reports that Fox Television and creators McG and Adam Barr are developing a US version of Spaced. The article indicates that it's "unclear" whether Simon and Edgar (what about Jess?!) will be involved in the development. But Edgar is very, very clear! He's posted about it three times today, in fact. UPDATE: And one more EdgarBlog, for good measure. This one's a corker. UPDATE #2: A MESSAGE FROM SIMON: "I feel utterly bemused by the issue of Spaced being transferred anywhere. It is an extremely personal show that grew out of a very specific set of circumstances. There is no way on Earth it could ever be reversioned without becoming something completely different. If you take away all those specifics, what you're left with is a very conventional log line for a fairly mediocre sitcom. "Two strangers decide to pose as a professional couple in order to secure an apartment". I'm sure anyone who appreciates the show would agree that 'set up' is probably the least relevant aspect of the show's appeal. I am really pissed off that we weren't even contacted out of courtesy or respect. Long live Spaced 1.0." ________________ SIMON TO PLAY SCOTTY IN 'STAR TREK' Paramount Pictures is beaming up Simon Pegg to play Scotty in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek." Pegg joins Eric Bana, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Leonard Nimoy in the latest bigscreen incarnation of the classic TV series. Penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the story chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy. Chris Pine has been offered the role of Kirk. Paramount has set a November start date for the film, which will bow on Christmas Day 2008. Abrams and Stratton Leopold are producing, while Kurtzman and Orci will exec produce alongside Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof. Pegg, whose recent credits include "Hot Fuzz," will star in the upcoming satire "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People." Sorry, folks! _____________________ PEGGSTER.NET GETS A FUZZY COAT OF PAINT! Okay, so we were going to wait on this one - perhaps a bit closer to the release of Hot Fuzz, or until the official websites launch. Maybe even at Christmastime. But with the new design practically finished, sitting there looking all cool, we got a little fed up of looking at the old one. And not unlike a kid who can't be arsed to wait until Christmas morning to peek at their presents, we refused to make the rest of you wait, either. ;) Enjoy the Nick Angel commemorative edition of Peggster.net! And while you're at it, check out the terrific new interviews from The Guardian and Collider.net that are posted in Articles. _____________________ THE BOYS #1 ON SALE NOW! The first issue of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's The Boys - featuring a character called Wee Hughie modeled on Simon - is in comics stores now from Wildstorm Comics! You can check out a preview of the first six pages in PDF format here. Thanks, Mark! UPDATED 30 August - Issue #2 is out today; for more release dates of subsequent issues, visit the Wildstorm link above! _____________________ SIMON SNAGS ANOTHER LEAD ROLE! Gosh, someone's a busy boy. ;) The Pegg has scored another film role, this time as author Toby Young in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, based on Young's book about his job at Vanity Fair magazine: Variety says Young is merciless about his own hapless attempts to ingratiate himself with celebrities and impress supermodels. But he is equally scathing about the ego and grandeur of his boss, editor-in-chief Graydon Carter, and the self-importance of the entire Vanity Fair machine. Filming begins in New York and the UK next spring; for more on this very cool project, see ComingSoon.net! _____________________ AND ANOTHER THING!...NO TRIVIATA: One more note from Simon, to clear up recent stories in the British press: "There's been a flurry of emails and speculation about something I apparently said at the Volver premiere about La Triviata being back on. Just thought I'd clear it up. I wasn't even at the Volver premiere and the position on La Triv remains the same as it ever was, it's on the shelf for now. Not sure why this odd little non-story was fabricated by The Sun but there you go. "Hope that clears things up for anyone that might have caught wind of it." _____________________ TO FAT SUIT, OR NOT TO FAT SUIT... When Simon's casting in Run, Fat Boy, Run was announced, most film websites seemed to want to concentrate on whether or not he'd be wearing a fat suit in the film. Here, guys, this is for you: "No I won't be wearing a fat suit for Run Fatboy, Run. The title refers as much to a state of mind as it does a state of physicality. Also, when you think of fat suits, you immediately think of The Klumps and Big Momma's House, and well..." — Simon And that's that. ;) _____________________ EDGAR & NICK BLOG FROM COMIC-CON! Check out Peggster.net's Hot Fuzz Blogs page once more - yeah, they tried to make us THINK it was over! But Working Title has uploaded the first of two video blogs from the Hot Fuzz experience at Comic-Con. Also, word from EdgarWright.co.uk that a Hot Fuzz teaser will appear in front of Miami Vice starting this weekend! Note that this is the UK release of Miami Vice, so rejoice Brits; however, unless Rogue Pictures decides to release a teaser soon or UIP posts this teaser on the web, the U.S. audience may have to wait a bit longer. (Thanks to Caz and Llama!) _____________________ SIMON IN NEGOTIATIONS FOR SCHWIMMER COMEDY According to the Hollywood Reporter (28 July), Simon is in negotiations to star in Run, Fat Boy, Run, a romantic comedy that will be the directorial debut of David Schwimmer. It's written by Stella member Michael Ian Black. Says HR: "The Gold Circle Films project centers on a charming but oblivious overweight guy who leaves his fiancee on their wedding day only to discover years later that he really loves her. To win her back, he must finish a marathon while making her realize that her handsome, wealthy fiance is the wrong guy for her. "The film is set to start shooting next month in the U.K." _____________________ HOT FUZZ TEASERS AT COMIC-CON! Yaaaaaaayy!!! :D _____________________ HOT FUZZ HEATS UP! PLOT AND CASTING NEWS! 1ST MARCH 2006 Working Title is delighted to announce its next production, Hot Fuzz, an action comedy from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, co-creators of the hugely successful romzomcom, Shaun of the Dead. A Working Title production in association with Big Talk Productions, Hot Fuzz is directed by Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg. A comedy about a London cop who is seconded to deepest, darkest Somerset, the film is from an original screenplay by Wright and Pegg. Hot Fuzz will be produced by Nira Park (Shaun of the Dead), Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and the executive producer is Natascha Wharton. Pegg leads a stellar British cast including Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights), Steve Coogan (A Cock and Bull Story) and Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), Paddy Considine, Bill Bailey, Olivia Colman, Anne Reid, Rafe Spall, David Bradley, Stewart Wilson, Paul Freeman and Edward Woodward. Says producer Nira Park, "We're delighted to once again be joining creative forces with Working Title on this very exciting and very British film. Together, we're looking forward to giving the police action genre the same treatment we gave the living dead in 2004." Police constable Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is good at his job, so good in fact, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, his superiors at the Met have decided to sweep him under the carpet. So it is that London's top cop finds himself in the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With garden fetes and neighbourhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation and finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman (Frost), an oafish but well meaning young Constable, who dreams of being Mel Gibson. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realises that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems. The film will start principal photography later on in March. Source: Working Title Films _____________________ HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIMON!!! Yes, at long, long, long last Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg?s British cop movie ? their eagerly-awaited successor to Shaun Of The Dead - has been given the green light by Working Title. How do we know? Well, we spoke to Pegg about, ooh, five minutes ago and he happily confirmed the good news, which we?d been hearing on the grapevine for the past couple of weeks. ?We got the green light yesterday,? said Pegg. ?It sounds as if it?s going to be March, which is exciting.? The movie, which will star Pegg and Shaun cohort/real-life best mate, Nick Frost as two mismatched cops who team up in a West Country backwater, has been mooted for over a year now, with the delay in official news causing some people to fear that it would ever get made. However, just to put to bed the pernicious rumour (in no way started by us) that Pegg and Wright may have been slacking in any way, Pegg revealed the real reason for the delay. ?We?ve actually been writing it for most of the year!? laughed Pegg. ?We?ve been working so hard on it. It?s such a complex script. I think the first draft was 235 pages long because we thought ?oh fuck it, let?s just go for it, let?s just vomit it onto the page and see what happens?. And we?ve shaved off a hundred-odd pages, but it?s one of those things where if you remove one thing, there?s a pay-off later on that needs to be addressed. ?It?s been a far more intensive process than writing Shaun,? he continued. ?Shaun kinda wrote itself in a way, but this took some real brainpower. It?s been brilliant fun and a real exercise in comedy and logic. Sometimes we?d sit there frowning at each other, thinking ?we?re writing a comedy!? We?d be scratching our heads and crying, but I think that what we?ve come up with now is a better script than Shaun Of The Dead, so fingers crossed.? Pegg (and Wright) have been loath to give away plot points, but both have confessed to us recently that Shane Black has been a big influence on the flick (along with Dirty Harry), so we might be getting something a little darker and rougher than we first thought. ?We watched a hell of a lot of movies before we started writing and his movies have that kind of sass,? said Pegg. ?It?s a tribute to those movies, in a way, like a British Shane Black movie. I?m going to sound like whatsisname off Matrix Reloaded -?we?ve raised the bar!? - but I just hope we can live up to what we kind of inadvertently did with Shaun. We definitely can. We?ve eaten the bar!? Sounds good to us. Needless to say, Empire will be all over this the beautifully-titled Hot Fuzz like Velcro. Stay tuned for further news. For More on Hot Fuzz, please check out the article at Empire Online: (Click to read) Source: Empire Online _____________________ SIMON PEGG STARTS WORK ON 'BIG NOTHING'. The 'Spaced' is cast in a new film, while 'Hot Fuzz' should finally go into production in March. December 15, 2005 'Shaun of the Dead' star Simon Pegg has just started work on a new Britflick called 'Big Nothing'. Currently shooting on the Isle of Man, the film stars Pegg as a con artist who embarks on a blackmailing scam with an unemployed teacher played by 'Friends' star David Schwimmer. Natascha McElhone, Mary Chaykin and Mimi Rogers fill out the cast, while Jean-Baptise Andrea ('Dead End') is directing. And in related Pegg news, Empire recently revealed that he and Edgar Wright have finally got the green-light for 'Hot Fuzz', their long-awaited follow-up to 'Shaun of the Dead'. Featuring Pegg and Nick Frost as two mismatched cops sent to the West Country, the comedy is set to go into production in March. And while the plot is currently being kept under wraps, TO caught up with an actor involved in the most recent cast read through, who let slip that the film again revolves around the Frost/Pegg love story that began in sitcom 'Spaced' and continued so tenderly in 'Shaun'. Although maybe that was just our interpretation. Chris Tilly Source: Time Out, London _____________________ SCHWIMMER AND PEGG JOIN NOTHING. November 6, 2005 David Schwimmer (Friends) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) have joined the cast of Jean-Baptiste Andrea's Big Nothing for Pathe Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter. Billed as a fast-paced and tightly plotted black comedy, Andrea and William Asher wrote the screenplay. The film is being produced by Andras Hamori (Fateless) and Gabriella Stollenwerck (Dead End) under production banner H2O Motion Pictures. Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames and JJ Abrams are thoroughly lovely people and made me feel very welcome. I play Benji Dunn, I'm a good guy and that's all I can say without getting beaten up by Paramount Studio heavies." _____________________ HOT FUZZ UPDATE: TOWN ON SHORTLIST AS POSSIBLE FILM LOCATION Axbridge has been shortlisted as the location for the filming of a comic drama film early next year. A location manager has been on a tour of the West Country and has put Axbridge at the top of his list of preferred locations. The top UK film producer Working Title has been casting a big budget film using the same production team as last year's surprise international hit, Shaun Of The Dead, directed and co-written by Edgar Wright, who went to school in Wells. The film was one of the biggest grossing British movies of 2004, reaching number two in the US movie charts. Location manager Ben Gladstone has been to the town and shortlisted it as a potential site for filming. Mr Gladstone has been involved with finding locations for Pearl Harbor, Ladies In Lavender, The Importance Of Being Earnest and the TV mini series about Winston Churchill, The Gathering Storm Axbridge is in competition with several other West Country towns for the filming, which would last for two to three weeks and take place in February, March or April of next year. The knock-on effect the town being used as a film location would be a major boost to the local economy. Axbridge Mayor Cllr Tony Wilson revealed that the film company was looking at Axbridge this week. He said: "Working Title has been looking for somewhere to film the movie and will also be looking at other locations in Somerset and in Dorset, but Axbridge could be the ideal location. "Although the town square would be a main location for the filming, normal life in the town would not be disrupted too much. "The main problem would be the passage of buses and other vehicles through the square, but filming would stop for them to pass." As well as the increase in trade for local hotels, restaurants and shops, local tradesmen could expect a boost to their businesses and residents could be paid for the use of their homes as locations, or as extras. The town could also benefit from increased tourism. Source: This is Somerset _____________________ SIMON PEGG JOINS MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 11 October 2005 Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has signed on to join Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 3, says The Hollywood Reporter. He will play an ally of Special Agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise). Directed by J.J. Abrams ( Lost, Alias), "M:i:III" boasts an ensemble cast that also includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell and Maggie Q. "I've been dying to work with Simon since I saw 'Shaun of the Dead'," said Abrams. "His comedic skill is remarkable; he's able to be hysterically funny while always seeming 100% real, even when he's killing zombies with vinyl records." The film is produced by Cruise and Paula Wagner through their C/W Productions and executive produced by Stratton Leopold. Paramount will release the third installment on May 5. Source: The Hollywood Reporter _____________________ SIMON TO STAR IN 'THE GOOD NIGHT' W/PALTROW & FREEMAN 10 October 2005 Gwyneth Paltrow, Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) will star in The Good Night, a $15 million romantic comedy written and to be directed by Paltrow's brother, Jake Paltrow. Variety reports that the film is set in New York but will shoot mainly at London's Ealing Studios. Shooting starts November 7, with a few days of New York filming scheduled for January. The wry comedy concerns a man's search for perfection in a world where life rarely measures up to the idealized images that constantly bombard us. Freeman will play a former pop star now reduced to writing advertising jingles amid an early midife crisis. Pegg and Paltrow will play supporting roles. The trade adds that the female lead has yet to be cast. The part is a dual role as the object of Freeman's romantic interest takes on a very different, idealized form in his fantasies. Producers approached a host of stars to help finance the new play Come Again, which tells the story of Pete and Dud?s partnership from Moore?s point of view, at the Assembly Rooms. And those offered also items include Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook, Dawn French, Jimmy Carr, P Mitchell and Webb, Prunella Scales, Stephen Fry, Clive Anderson, Ken Dodd and writers David Renwick, Jimmy Perry and David Croft. The play is not the first to explore the difficult relationship between Pete and Dud, with the Channel 4 film Not Only But Always being screened over Christmas. But writers Chris Bartlett and Nick Awde say their version differs by examining the partnership from Moore?s point of view. A spokesman for the production said; ?The play explores how their partnership worked and evolved, why Dudley was often unfairly dismissed as the junior partner and Peter thought of as the comedy icon and how Dudley then managed to spread his wings to emerge as an internationally famous solo star.? The items they donated, including signed scripts, pictures, DVDs and CDs, will be auctioned off on eBay, starting at 10am this Thursday. Click here to visit the auction once it starts.
